BidCars is designed for professional car dealers, garages, and private individuals in Switzerland. Private individuals can list vehicles for sale but cannot bid themselves. Bidding is exclusively reserved for verified dealers with a team account.
What languages are supported?
The platform is fully available in German and English. You can switch the language at any time using the language selector in the navigation.
What devices can I use BidCars on?
BidCars works on all common devices and browsers. The platform is fully responsive and optimised for desktop, tablet, and smartphone. No separate app is required.
How many vehicles are offered weekly?
Over 300 vehicles are offered on BidCars every week, each with detailed assessments and comprehensive documentation.
Registration and Account
How do I register on BidCars?
Registration is quick and simple: Create a personal account with email and password, then confirm your email address. Private individuals can immediately start listing vehicles. For bidding access and advanced features, create a team account for your company.
What is the difference between a personal account and a team account?
A personal account allows private individuals to list and sell vehicles on the platform. A team account represents a business and additionally enables bidding on auctions, managing multiple team members, and access to the partner programme with reduced fees.
Can private individuals sell vehicles?
Yes, private individuals with a personal account can list vehicles on BidCars and sell them via auction. However, private individuals cannot bid. Bidding is exclusively reserved for verified dealers with a team account.
How do I create a team account for my company?
After registration, you can create a team account by entering your Swiss company UID number (format: CHE-123.456.789). The data is automatically verified against the commercial register. Our team then reviews the application and activates your account.
How long does team account activation take?
After entering your UID number, your application is reviewed by our team. Activation typically happens within one business day. You will be notified as soon as your account is active and you can start bidding.
What roles are available in a team account?
There are various roles: The owner has full administrative rights over the team account. Members can manage listings, bid on auctions, change team settings, or invite additional members depending on their assigned permissions.
Can I invite multiple team members?
Yes, as a team account owner you can invite any number of team members via email. Each member receives an invitation and can start working on the platform immediately after accepting. You set permissions individually for each member.
Vehicles and Listings
How do I create a vehicle listing?
Navigate to 'Sell your car' to create a new listing. The process guides you through 6 steps: vehicle identification, equipment, condition, pricing, images, and a final review.
What vehicle information is required?
The following information is required: make and model, VIN (vehicle identification number), first registration date, mileage, colours (exterior and interior), body type, fuel type, gearbox, drive type, power output, doors, seats, as well as detailed vehicle condition and equipment.
How does automatic vehicle identification work?
BidCars uses the Auto-i-DAT database for automatic vehicle identification. You can search for vehicles using the VIN, licence plate, vehicle registration number, or type approval number. Technical data is automatically populated and does not need to be entered manually.
How many images can I upload?
You can upload a maximum of 10 images per listing. Supported formats are JPEG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC. The maximum file size is 10 MB per image. Images are automatically optimised. Additionally, a QR code feature is available for uploading images directly from your smartphone.
What is the difference between starting price and minimum price?
The starting price is the minimum amount at which bidding begins. The minimum price is the minimum amount you as the seller will accept. If the highest bid reaches the minimum price, the vehicle is sold automatically. If the highest bid is below the minimum price, a negotiation phase begins between buyer and seller.
What happens after my listing is published?
After publication, your listing is released for auction. The auction starts automatically during business hours (Monday to Saturday, 09:00 to 18:00). All registered dealers with bidding permissions can then bid on your vehicle.
What vehicle conditions are recorded?
The following condition information is recorded: accident history, hail damage, smoker/pet owner vehicle, mechanical condition, paint and body condition, inspection date, first owner status, number of keys, service record status, and vehicle registration availability.
Can I edit a listing after publication?
A listing can be edited at any time while in draft status. After publication and during an active auction, changes are no longer possible to ensure fairness for all bidders.
Auction System
What auction formats does BidCars offer?
BidCars offers two auction formats: the standard auction with a duration of 24 hours, and the Fast Auction with a duration of 30 minutes for particularly quick sales. Both formats use the same transparent bidding system with dynamic minimum bids and anti-sniping protection.
How does the standard auction (24 hours) work?
The standard auction runs for exactly 24 hours. Auctions start automatically during business hours (Monday to Saturday, 09:00 to 18:00). For example, if a listing is published on Friday at 14:00, the auction ends on Saturday at 14:00. No auctions start on Sundays.
How does the Fast Auction (30 minutes) work?
The Fast Auction is ideal for vehicles that need to change hands quickly. The auction runs for only 30 minutes, enabling a particularly fast sales process. All standard auction rules apply: dynamic minimum bids, anti-sniping protection, and automatic sale when the minimum price is reached.
When do auctions start?
Auctions start automatically during business hours: Monday to Saturday, 09:00 to 18:00 (Swiss time). If a listing is published outside these hours, the auction starts on the next business day at 09:00. No auctions start on Sundays.
What is the anti-sniping rule?
The anti-sniping protection ensures fair auctions: if a bid is placed within the last 5 minutes before auction end, the auction is automatically extended by another 5 minutes. This gives all bidders a fair chance to respond. This extension can be triggered unlimited times as long as new bids come in during the final 5 minutes.
What is the minimum bid amount?
The minimum bid adjusts dynamically based on the current highest bid. For bids up to CHF 5,000, the minimum increment is CHF 50; up to CHF 10,000 it is CHF 100; up to CHF 50,000 it is CHF 200; up to CHF 100,000 it is CHF 500; and above CHF 100,000, the minimum increment is CHF 1,000. The first bid must be at least the starting price.
Who can bid on auctions?
Only verified team accounts with active bidding permission can participate in auctions. Private individuals with a personal account can list and sell vehicles but cannot bid themselves. Bidding permission is activated after company verification by our team.
Can I bid on my own vehicle?
No. You cannot bid on vehicles listed by your own team account or by any team you are a member of. This rule is automatically enforced by the platform at database level.
Are bids anonymous?
Yes, bidder identities are protected. In the bid history, bidder names are displayed anonymously (e.g., 'K****r' instead of 'Keller') so that competitors cannot be directly identified.
Do I get notified when I am outbid?
Yes, you are immediately notified in real-time when another bidder exceeds your bid. This allows you to react promptly and place a new bid.
What happens if an auction ends with no bids?
If an auction ends without any bids, the seller is notified. The vehicle returns to 'Available' status and can be re-listed for auction by the seller.
Post-Auction Negotiation
When does a negotiation start?
A negotiation is automatically initiated when the highest auction bid is below the seller's minimum price. If the bid meets or exceeds the minimum price, the vehicle is sold automatically and no negotiation takes place.
How does the negotiation process work?
The negotiation consists of up to 3 rounds: Round 1 automatically includes the buyer's highest bid from the auction. In Round 2, the seller can make a counter-offer or accept the bid directly. In Round 3, the buyer submits a final offer. The seller then makes the final decision to accept or reject.
How much time do I have for a negotiation?
Every negotiation has a fixed deadline of 48 hours from creation. This deadline is never extended. If it expires without an agreement, the negotiation ends automatically and the vehicle returns to 'Available' status.
What happens after a successful deal?
Upon agreement, a deal is created immediately. All relevant data is stored as an immutable snapshot: complete vehicle data, contact information for both buyer and seller, and the agreed price. Logistics (pickup or delivery) are then initiated.
What happens if the negotiation fails?
If the seller rejects the final offer or the 48-hour deadline expires, the negotiation ends. The vehicle returns to 'Available' status and can be re-listed for auction by the seller. Both parties are notified.
What is the difference between direct sale and negotiation?
A direct sale occurs automatically when the highest auction bid meets or exceeds the minimum price. The deal is created immediately. In a negotiation, the bid is below the minimum price and both parties have up to 3 rounds within 48 hours to agree on a price.
Am I notified about the negotiation status?
Yes, both parties receive real-time notifications at every step: when the negotiation starts, when a counter-offer is received, when the final offer is submitted, and when the negotiation is accepted, rejected, or expires.
Fees and Partner Programme
What fees apply on BidCars?
There are three fee types: The listing fee is charged when creating each vehicle listing and is billed to the seller. The sale fee is a one-time charge to the seller upon successful sale. The purchase fee (commission) is a percentage-based fee for the buyer, calculated on the vehicle price excl. VAT.
What partner tiers are available?
BidCars offers four tiers: Standard (for beginners and occasional buyers), Silver (for growing dealers from 30 vehicles), Gold (for active dealers from 100 vehicles with regular volume), and Platinum (exclusive, by invitation only). Higher tiers enjoy better conditions.
How do I get a higher partner tier?
Partner tiers are assigned by our team based on your trading volume and activity. Once you meet the requirements for a higher tier (e.g., 30 vehicles for Silver, 100 for Gold), we will contact you. The Platinum tier is exclusively available by invitation.
What are free listings?
Depending on your partner tier, you receive a certain number of free listings. The Standard tier includes no free listings. Silver partners receive 1 free listing, Gold partners receive 2, and Platinum partners have unlimited free listings.
How is the purchase commission calculated?
The purchase commission is calculated as a percentage of the vehicle price excl. VAT. The percentage depends on your partner tier. Additionally, transport costs (if applicable) and VAT (8.1%) are added to the total. A detailed cost breakdown is displayed before bidding.
Where can I find current prices?
All current fees and conditions can be found on our pricing page. Prices are centrally managed and always up to date. For individual enquiries, please contact us directly.
Are there any hidden costs?
No. BidCars is committed to full transparency. All fees are clearly listed on the pricing page. Before bidding, you see a complete cost breakdown including vehicle price, purchase commission, any transport costs, and VAT.
Transport and Delivery
What options are available after a purchase?
After a successful deal, two options are available: pickup from the seller (available to all partner tiers) or delivery by BidCars (only for Gold and Platinum partners). The chosen method is already set when creating the listing.
How does vehicle pickup work?
With pickup, the buyer collects the vehicle directly from the seller. The exact address and contact details of the seller are displayed in the deal section after the transaction. Timing and details are arranged directly between buyer and seller.
How does the delivery option work?
For Gold and Platinum partners, BidCars organises vehicle transport directly to the buyer. Delivery costs vary by vehicle category (passenger car, SUV/van, commercial vehicle) and are transparently listed on the pricing page.
What happens with an empty run?
If an ordered delivery is cancelled after transport has already been scheduled, an empty run fee applies. The exact costs can be found on our pricing page.
How do I track delivery status?
In the deal section, you can view the current logistics status. The status shows whether the delivery is pending, scheduled, in transit, or delivered. After receiving the vehicle, you confirm delivery on the platform.
Security and Trust
How are dealers verified on BidCars?
Every company is verified against the Swiss commercial register using their UID number. Additionally, our team manually reviews every application before granting bidding and selling permissions. This ensures that only serious participants trade on the platform.
Are my bids secure and immutable?
Yes. All bids are validated at database level and are immutable once placed. Submitted bids cannot be deleted or edited. The platform also prevents self-bidding and automatically checks the bidder's authorisation with every bid.
What are deal snapshots?
With every completed deal, all relevant data is stored as an immutable snapshot: complete vehicle data including images, contact information for both parties, and the agreed price. This data is permanently preserved and ensures full transparency and traceability.
How is my data protected?
BidCars uses state-of-the-art security standards. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to sensitive data is protected by role-based access controls. Only authorised users can access the corresponding information.
Can bidding permission be revoked?
Yes, in case of violations of platform rules, our team can restrict or revoke the bidding or selling permission of an account. All changes are logged and communicated to the affected company.
Can anonymous visitors see prices?
No. While non-logged-in visitors can browse vehicles on the marketplace, prices (current bids, starting prices) are only displayed to logged-in users. This protects against automated data scraping.
Technical Support
What should I do if I encounter technical issues?
For technical difficulties, we recommend first clearing your browser cache and reloading the page. If the problem persists, contact us through the contact form with a detailed description of the issue.
Is there a mobile app?
There is currently no separate mobile app. However, the platform is fully optimised as a responsive web application for mobile devices and can be used directly through the browser on your smartphone or tablet.
What image formats are supported?
Supported formats are JPEG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC. The maximum file size is 10 MB per image. Images are automatically compressed and optimised. Additionally, you can upload images directly from your smartphone using a QR code.
Are real-time updates supported?
Yes, BidCars uses real-time technology for all important events: new bids appear instantly in the bid history, auction status changes are displayed live, negotiation rounds are updated in real-time, and you receive immediate notifications for relevant events such as being outbid or receiving negotiation offers.
How does the cost breakdown work when bidding?
Before bidding, you are shown a complete cost breakdown: vehicle price excl. VAT, purchase commission based on your partner tier, any transport costs by vehicle category, subtotal, VAT (8.1%), and the total amount.
